Heatons Cats Blog 25th February

It’s time for an update, pop the kettle on and settle in as it’s been a while and there’s a lot to share!
It’s been a very busy start to the year when it comes to looking after our cats and kittens. With new residents arriving all the time, including two pregnant cats who soon each gave birth to their own litter of beautiful kittens, we’ve been kept on our toes!
It all started with our beautiful Tango, who came in with an existing litter of 5 lovely kittens. During a routine vet check, we were surprised to discover that Tango had already become pregnant again prior to her arrival at Heaton’s Cats which was soon after her previous birth. We moved her to her own pen and prepared for her labour which happened soon after. We were so relieved when she successfully gave birth to 7 more brand new kittens which she immediately started to look after like the brilliant Mum that she is.
Our second litter so far this year was born to Josie who was very timid and afraid when she was first brought into our care. The team worked very cautiously around Josie to make sure she was well cared for whilst providing her with a sense of safety. Once again, it was confirmed she was pregnant during her first vet check and just a few days later, she too successfully gave birth to 5 gorgeous little babies.
All babies and Mums are doing well and continue to be fed, cleaned, weighed, kept warm and cosy, cuddled and monitored daily by our staff and volunteers in our dedicated Kitten Room.
With all their individual histories when they first arrive, various health issues, different personalities and needs, our team have been working hard to make sure every single cat and kitten is safe, well and loved, every single day which also means they can then go on to be adopted.
We’re always happy to see our cats find their forever homes and so far this year we’ve successfully rehomed 11 of our rescues with their excited and happy new families.
Even though we’re a small independent charity, sadly, the need for our services is endless. So many cats are being left un-neutered leading to unlimited litters of cats being born and many abandoned which is on top of the regular number of cats we take in from people who simply aren’t able to look after them anymore.
Because of this, our fundraising efforts continue and our needs are bigger than ever! We’ve been ramping up our efforts on social media to help raise awareness, as well as monthly articles in Stockport Post, the free local paper which you may have spotted us in!
Our regular Jumble & Bake Sales at St Pauls Church Hall will continue this year, the first of which was very busy and raised around £450! Thank you to everyone who came and supported us, it really does mean a lot. We have some additional fundraising events at Pets at Home Stockport coming up over Easter so keep a look out for us if you’re in store over the school holidays, our team will be baking up a storm and looking to sell out so don’t miss out!
